I have got to grips with nappies and can now hold her without dropping her! Always a good thing, then again Mabel quite likes it when I catch her.

She is growing up and getting heavy - five months and 2 weeks and she has just broken the 1 stone barrier!

We went to Teignmouth for a few days, Mabel enjoyed spending time in the sea air and spending time with her Great Grandma. She continues to grow and get stronger. The only issue we have is that she doesn't like to sleep that much. Perhaps three hours or so at a stretch is about the best we get at the moment.

We managed to get her to sleep a little!

Since being born she has impressed me with her strength and ability to do things. Considering that she is only seven weeks old I am surprised that she can do all that she can.
Lift her head, focus on faces, she has just begun to recognise us and also has begun to grab our fingers and try to grab bits of a toy! I was definitely someone who viewed babies as dull, but seeing her means that I get to see her develop completely! Quite impressive.

This picture is of me, Bec and Mabel.

The other day Mabel was weighed and came in at 8lbs 1oz.

last week Becca was taken into hospital due to high blood pressure. This, I must admit, I found to be very annoying. we had just moved house and had builders to see and walls to strip. Becca stayed in hospital for just under a week and managed to not be induced 3 times. Yes girls being induced doesn't always work!

Apparently young Martin is a little on the small side (unlike it's parents then) and where Becca's stomach (also known as the baby size) measures 30 cm, 'Danger' should be in line with the number of weeks, around 32cm. So, the youth is about 2cms smaller than would be expected. Apparently there is nothing to worry about but if there is not more growth in two weeks time then a trip to the hospital will be in order.

 Comments

Baby update #1

I have spent money.

We have gone out and bought a cot, a car seat and various paraphernalia that goes with each. As a treat we also bought a rocking chair / feeding chair as well. I suppose it had to happen, the wallet opened.

Still, my wife managed to make me feel better by showing me how much we could have spent on the various bits and pieces. I am pleased to say that we could have spent considerably more. Still, I shouldn't begrudge the little tyke the stuff. We did plan to have this baby and so it is a joy (sort of)...

 Comments

A moving stomach...

is frankly weird. It seems to be a small fist, foot, head....? Like a scene from Alien my wife's stomach ripples in a most odd way.

I know, what all you experienced Dads and mothers will say - you think that's bad, just wait to the birth! Urgh!

Technorati Profile

">

Nevertheless, I couldn't resist putting this picture on. If I am like this now what will I be like when there is a real child to do things with? Probably more tired.

Anyway, 'Danger' didn't co-operate with the scan that much. Poor Bec had to wiggle and jiggle, then we had to go for a walk and even then there wasn't a particularly clear picture. Still, this one seems to show that most of what we would expect to be there actually is.

I am quite excited really.

 Comments

Tests and more tests.

Bec is off to hospital tomorrow for yet another round of blood tests, urine sample and general check up. I read somewhere that she was likely to experience loads of blood tests and basically turn into a midwives' pin cushion. I just didn't quite believe it until, of course, it happens.

I wonder if anyone else has a similar experience of feeling like she is part of a production line. Bec says that the midwives are generally great but that there is hardly any chance to ask questions. Everything is very perfunctory and to the point.

 Comments

12 week scan.

I was amazed at the site of this picture. I felt a bit sorry for Bec though as I got to see the screen much more than she did.

Considering that Bec is due on the 1st March and it is the start of December, the more discerning of you will have already worked out that she is considerably further along than week 12. Well, we had the twenty week scan at week 23. I just have to up load it.

Come back soon for week 23!

The responses have all been good and positive (Some of the reading that I had done suggested we should be on the lookout for possible negative reactions!)

I am pleased to report that all has been well. I suppose I would have liked some more effusive comments but then againI think that some people just needed a moment for the news to sink in.

Oh, I have now made a note in my diary that the first scan is due in a couple of weeks. I imagine that things will seem more real then - to me as well as everyone else!

 Comments

Out with my nephew.

I have spent a couple of hours out with my nephew today and I am surprised, pleasantly I might add, that I enjoyed myself. Zach is two and we were in London and saw some Soldiers and went to a museum and looked at swords (Zach loves them at the moment it seems). This was followed by a couple of pretend sword fights and chasing some pigeons.

I was relieved to have survived the whole episode without having to go near a nappy or deal with tears. I'm fairly rubbish with tears (just ask my wife) and have never so much as opened a nappy in my life. No, really, not even as a child because as has been pointed out to me recently, I had towelling (I am not sure what that means other than the obvious).

All of this, I suspect, is part of a ploy on the part of Becca (my long suffering other and better half) to acclimatise me to a small child. It seems that we are expecting a child and it should be with us early next year. I probably haven't taken this on board in enough detail. I am pleased with the big picture; will have son or daughter who I hope will be fit and healthy and good to have around, but I feel a bit sketchy on the nitty gritty. To be honest there is a big part of me that doesn't want to go anywhere near the sordid dirty and likely smelly bits of a child. I successfully avoided all of that today too!

Had a good time, thankyou. Yes, he is a bit sleepy due to the sword fighting and chasing pigeons.
No mess, no tears and good fun.
