  • Latest pics of Mabel.

MabelIt's been a while. I have got to grips with nappies and can now hold her without dropping her! Always a good thing, then again Mabel quite likes it when I catch her.

She is growing up and getting heavy - five months and 2 weeks and she has just broken the 1 stone barrier!

    Martin Family

We went to Teignmouth for a few days, Mabel enjoyed spending time in the sea air and spending time with her Great Grandma. She continues to grow and get stronger. The only issue we have is that she doesn't like to sleep that much. Perhaps three hours or so at a stretch is about the best we get at the moment.

We managed to get her to sleep a little!
  • Mabel is growing up

well she is a little bit. Since being born she has impressed me with her strength and ability to do things. Considering that she is only seven weeks old I am surprised that she can do all that she can.
Lift her head, focus on faces, she has just begun to recognise us and also has begun to grab our fingers and try to grab bits of a toy! I was definitely someone who viewed babies as dull, but seeing her means that I get to see her develop completely! Quite impressive.

The other day Mabel was weighed and came in at 8lbs 1oz.
  • Mabel Elizabeth Vol 1

Wow, what a journey and tale.

last week Becca was taken into hospital due to high blood pressure. This, I must admit, I found to be very annoying. we had just moved house and had builders to see and walls to strip. Becca stayed in hospital for just under a week and managed to not be induced 3 times. Yes girls being induced doesn't always work!

  • Baby update #2

Today Becca had another check up.

Apparently young Martin is a little on the small side (unlike it's parents then) and where Becca's stomach (also known as the baby size) measures 30 cm, 'Danger' should be in line with the number of weeks, around 32cm. So, the youth is about 2cms smaller than would be expected. Apparently there is nothing to worry about but if there is not more growth in two weeks time then a trip to the hospital will be in order.

  • Baby update #1

    I have spent money.

We have gone out and bought a cot, a car seat and various paraphernalia that goes with each. As a treat we also bought a rocking chair / feeding chair as well. I suppose it had to happen, the wallet opened.

Still, my wife managed to make me feel better by showing me how much we could have spent on the various bits and pieces. I am pleased to say that we could have spent considerably more. Still, I shouldn't begrudge the little tyke the stuff. We did plan to have this baby and so it is a joy (sort of)...

  • A moving stomach...

is frankly weird. It seems to be a small fist, foot, head....? Like a scene from Alien my wife's stomach ripples in a most odd way.

I know, what all you experienced Dads and mothers will say - you think that's bad, just wait to the birth! Urgh!

  • 20 week scan at week 23.

It is now week 26 for Bec, so I know that 'Danger' (as he /she/ it has been nicknamed) Martin has got a little bigger than this.
     23 weeks.

Nevertheless, I couldn't resist putting this picture on. If I am like this now what will I be like when there is a real child to do things with? Probably more tired.

Anyway, 'Danger' didn't co-operate with the scan that much. Poor Bec had to wiggle and jiggle, then we had to go for a walk and even then there wasn't a particularly clear picture. Still, this one seems to show that most of what we would expect to be there actually is.

    I am quite excited really.

  • Tests and more tests.

Bec is off to hospital tomorrow for yet another round of blood tests, urine sample and general check up. I read somewhere that she was likely to experience loads of blood tests and basically turn into a midwives' pin cushion. I just didn't quite believe it until, of course, it happens.

I wonder if anyone else has a similar experience of feeling like she is part of a production line. Bec says that the midwives are generally great but that there is hardly any chance to ask questions. Everything is very perfunctory and to the point.
